Xeomin®

Xeomin® is a neuromodulator injectable treatment, similar to Botox®. Made with a slightly different formulation of botulinum toxin type A, it works by blocking the release of chemicals that cause muscles to contract, leading to facial wrinkles. This results in smoother skin and a more youthful look. During the Xeomin manufacturing process, the therapeutic component of the active ingredient is isolated and unnecessary proteins are removed. This means Xeomin is a more purified form of Botox without the unnecessary ingredients, which some patients prefer. Overall, Xeomin is FDA-approved to treat frown lines between the eyebrows, also called the “11s”, though Xeomin and other botulinum toxin products can also be used off-label to treat other areas such as forehead lines, chin wrinkles, crow’s feet, and neck bands.

During treatment, Xeomin will be injected into the muscles that cause frown lines between your brows. No anesthesia is needed, though you may request a topical numbing cream to reduce any discomfort. Treatments are quick, taking 10-20 minutes to complete.

There is no downtime required following Xeomin injection, so you can feel free to return to your regular activities as soon as you wish. Mild redness and swelling are typical side effects of Xeomin, which will resolve with time. You may have very mild injection site pain for the first few hours, and a topical anesthetic can be used if needed. Most patients begin to see results typically within 3-4 days after injection and last three to four months before additional treatment is needed.
